Jessica Brummitt Obituary, Death; – A pedestrian was killed on Friday after she was reportedly hit by a train in Big Stone Gap.
According to the Virginia State Police (VSP), a pedestrian walking a bicycle along train tracks was hit by a Norfolk Southern train around 4:20 p.m.
The incident occurred between Shawnee Avenue East and East 19th Street North, VSP reports.
State police identified the pedestrian as Jessica Brummitt, 39, of Appalachia, Virginia. Brummitt died at the scene. VSP stated in a news release that the train was “unable to avoid striking” Brummitt. As of Monday, the crash was still under investigation.
