Jerry Gomes,Mary Gomes Obituary, Death; – New information emerged on Monday afternoon regarding the circumstances that led to aggravated murder charges against a Montpelier man accused of the fatal assault on his parents last week.
Court documents indicate that Matthew Gomes, 29, made several calls to the police during the early hours of November 15. The police directed him to Washington County Mental Health Services, but Gomes reportedly disconnected the call before any in-person assistance could be provided.
Later that morning, around 11:30, Gomes contacted the police again, expressing that he was “going crazy” and had “hurt some people.” He allegedly informed the authorities that he had harmed his parents, who he claimed were deceased.
Upon arriving at the residence located at 579 Gallison Hill Road, law enforcement discovered blood on Gomes and in various rooms of the house, including a bedroom and a bathroom. It appeared that bodies had been dragged across the floor. The bodies of his parents, Jerry and Mary Gomes, were found partially clothed near a barn behind the house. Both victims exhibited signs of blunt force trauma to the head, and authorities noted the presence of gasoline near Mary Gomes’ body.
Matthew Gomes is scheduled to appear in court on Monday afternoon. NEWSCHAIN will provide coverage and updates for Channel 3 News starting at 4 p.m.
