Jeremy Cole Obituary, Death; – A police sergeant has tragically lost his life following a wrong-way collision on Interstate 95 in Massachusetts on Thursday morning. According to the Massachusetts State Police, officers were dispatched to a report of a Tesla traveling south in the wrong direction on I-95 shortly after midnight.
WFXT has reported that state troopers observed the vehicle moving the wrong way in the Newburyport area and prepared a tire-deflation device in Georgetown. Unfortunately, before the Tesla could reach the device, it collided head-on with a Chevrolet Trailblazer near mile marker 81 in the Newbury area.
The driver of the Trailblazer was identified as Endicott College Police Sergeant Jeremy Cole, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Endicott College Chief of Police Kerry Ramsdell stated that Cole was returning home early on Thanksgiving morning after completing his evening shift.
“On this Thanksgiving Day, our thoughts are with the family, friends, and loved ones of a police officer who dedicated himself to ensuring the safety of others but did not make it home,” Ramsdell expressed. “This is an incredibly challenging time for our department, and we are devastated by this profound loss.”
Authorities reported that the driver of the Tesla, a man in his 40s, suffered serious injuries in the incident and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. He is anticipated to face charges, as reported by WFXT. First responders closed the highway in both directions at the site of the crash for rescue operations and investigation. State police indicated that their investigation is still ongoing.
