Jeremy Benavidez Obituary, Death; – A manhunt has concluded for an individual accused of murdering his cousin, following the apprehension of the suspect by Dilley Police. The homicide occurred in Dilley, situated an hour southwest of San Antonio.
Frio County Sheriff Peter Salinas has confirmed that the murder victim has been identified as 23-year-old Jeremy Benavidez from Dilley.
Sheriff Salinas reported that at approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday, Dilley police, in conjunction with Frio County deputies, responded to reports of gunfire in the 400 block of Curtis Street.
“Upon their arrival, they discovered a male individual suffering from multiple gunshot wounds,” stated Sheriff Peter Salinas, Frio County Sheriff. Sheriff Salinas indicated that Benavidez sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his stomach and back.
“The male individual ultimately succumbed to his injuries. He was later identified as Jeremy Benavidez, 23 years old, from Dilley,” Sheriff Salinas remarked.
Before succumbing to his injuries, Sheriff Salinas noted that Benavidez managed to inform authorities about his assailant.
“While investigating the scene and interviewing witnesses, as well as anyone they could reach, investigators successfully identified a suspect as 49-year-old Rosendo Rodriguez, also from Dilley,” Sheriff Salinas explained.
Following the shooting, Sheriff Salinas mentioned that Rodriguez was captured on surveillance footage around 2:30 a.m. at the Refuel Convenience store in Pearsall.
“At this moment, they have secured an arrest warrant for the charge of murder and are actively seeking him,” Sheriff Salinas added. Less than 48 hours later, the suspect identified as Orlando “Nando” Rosendo Rodriguez was taken into custody.
On Sunday morning, just before 7 a.m., an anonymous tip regarding the suspect’s location led Dilley PD Officers and Frio County Deputies to a local motel situated off Highway 85 in Dilley. Through the collaborative efforts of both agencies, Rodriguez was apprehended without incident and has been transported to the County Jail, facing charges of Felony-Murder.
