Jeremiah R Astutu-Bofah,Charles Lipsey Obituary, Death; – A mass shooting that occurred over the weekend resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to seven others, including a 4-year-old boy, in the south suburban area of Harvey. Police stated on Monday that this incident “wasn’t a random act of violence.”
According to Harvey Police Deputy Chief Derrick Charles, the shooting was the latest episode in an ongoing personal feud between two groups, as he explained during a news conference.
“We are confident in our understanding of who is involved and what’s behind it,” Charles remarked. “That said, innocent people have been hurt, including a young child, and we’re not going to allow this violence to continue.”
On Saturday evening, a house party was taking place in the 14400 block of Des Plaines Street when two individuals arrived shortly after 8 p.m. and began firing shots. One attendee at the party, who possessed a valid concealed carry license, returned fire, resulting in the death of one of the assailants, as reported by Harvey officials.
The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Charles Lipsey, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The second shooter sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he later stabilized and was taken into custody. Seven individuals at the party were injured, including a 4-year-old boy. As of Monday, all were reported to be in stable condition, according to police.
At 4:50 a.m. on Sunday, Harvey police responded to a report of gunfire in the 200 block of Calumet Boulevard, where they discovered a man in a minivan who had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene and identified as 28-year-old Jeremiah R. Astutu-Bofah, as stated by the medical examiner’s office.
Harvey Police Chief Cameron Biddings indicated that investigators suspect Astutu-Bofah was killed in a “retaliatory act.” He noted that there was another individual in the minivan who was unharmed.
“We now know who the bad actors are. These are not random acts of violence or anonymous individuals,” Biddings asserted. “This violence arises from a persistent conflict between individuals with a long and disruptive history within our city. We are very familiar with them, and frankly, they have caused harm within our community for far too long.
