Jen Southerland Obituary, Death; – A 55-year-old fitness enthusiast lost her life in a tragic accident on Friday morning while cycling in Delaware County.
According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Jen Southerland, who was known for her passion for cycling, running, and swimming, was on her regular morning ride along Walnut Street, just south of County Road 1000 North, when a car struck her from behind at approximately 6:15 a.m. on April 4.
Authorities reported that the driver of the vehicle, a 72-year-old woman from Delaware County, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. She was taken to Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which is standard procedure in such incidents. The sheriff’s crash reconstruction team is currently examining the circumstances that led to the accident.
“This heartbreaking incident is particularly personal for us. The Southerland family are close friends, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this challenging time,” stated Delaware County Chief Deputy Jeff Stanley.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is calling on all drivers to stay alert and to share the road responsibly with cyclists and pedestrians.
