Jeffrey Scott Duffie Obituary, Death; – A contract worker for Alabama Power has been confirmed as the individual who lost his life due to a falling tree in Birmingham over the weekend. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Jeffrey Scott Duffie, a 57-year-old resident of Daviston in Tallapoosa County.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates reported that Duffie was employed by Utility Line Construction Services. This company was contracted by Alabama Power to conduct repairs on power lines following the severe storms that occurred from Friday night into Saturday. The incident took place shortly after 10 a.m. on Saturday on 21st Avenue South, also referred to as Diaper Row in the Redmont Park area.
Emergency responders from the police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service arrived to find two individuals injured, one of whom was trapped beneath the fallen tree or its branches. Duffie was declared dead at the scene at 10:36 a.m. A second victim was transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
