Jayden Brackins Obituary, Death; – Columbia Police have apprehended two teenagers and are currently searching for a third individual in relation to a fatal shooting that occurred at a residence in Columbia, which was being utilized as an Airbnb.
During a press briefing on Sunday, Chief Skip Holbrook announced that his department arrested a 15-year-old on Friday night and an 18-year-old on Saturday night. The 15-year-old faces charges including kidnapping, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, criminal conspiracy, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a minor.
The 18-year-old, identified as Latrell D. D. Hughey, has been charged with murder, armed robbery, three counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a firearm by a person under 18.
These arrests were made following a shooting incident on Friday morning in the Elmwood Park neighborhood, which resulted in one fatality and three additional injuries. According to police, officers were initially responding to a report of a car break-in occurring in the 2400 block of Lincoln Street.
However, the nature of the call was later updated to indicate gunfire with a person injured as they proceeded to the location. Upon arriving at a residence located at 2408 Lincoln Street, officers heard screams emanating from inside. Police described the scene as chaotic, as they discovered four victims who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
During the update on Sunday, Coroner Naida Rutherford confirmed the identity of the deceased victim as 18-year-old Jayden Brackins. Officials reported that the other three victims included a 17-year-old male and two 18-year-old females, all hailing from the Richland County area. While their specific conditions were not disclosed, police indicated that all three remained hospitalized and in stable condition.
Authorities stated that the investigation into the motive is ongoing, and they are also seeking a potential third suspect, a 15-year-old who is facing charges of murder, armed robbery, three counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and possession of a firearm by a minor.
