Jaime Melendez-Martinez Obituary, Death; – A pedestrian was killed in a crash while crossing the street in New Haven on Wednesday night.
The collision occurred in the 200 block of Foxon Boulevard where emergency crews responded on the report of a pedestrian being struck just before 10:15 p.m., according to the New Haven Police Department.
An initial investigation found that the pedestrian, identified as 58-year-old Jaime Melendez-Martinez of New Haven, entered the eastbound lane of Foxon Boulevard from a Walmart parking lot, police said. Melendez-Martinez was struck outside of a marked crosswalk by a driver heading east toward Quinnipiac Avenue, according to police.
The driver initially did not stop and later went to the New Haven Police Department to report the crash, police said. Melendez-Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Dan Coughlin, assistant chief of the New Haven Fire Department.
The collision remains under investigation by the police department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit. No charges have been filed at this time. Anyone with information has been asked to call detectives at 203-946-6304 or the department’s anonymous tip-line at 866-888-TIPS (8477).
