Jahlil Royale Kirkland Obituary, Death; – A lead provided to Crime Stoppers resulted in an arrest related to a double-fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in Arlington on Sunday.
As reported by Arlington police, two individuals walking on the sidewalk along East Lamar Boulevard near Corporate Drive were tragically killed when the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu veered off the road, struck them from behind, and continued driving.
The victims, a man and a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man as 22-year-old Jahlil Royale Kirkland, while the identity of the 23-year-old woman accompanying him has not yet been disclosed.
Investigators revealed that on the night of the incident, a witness reported to Crime Stoppers having seen a Malibu with significant front-end damage parked outside a bar located on the 300 block of Great Southwest Parkway in Grand Prairie. The informant provided photographs of the vehicle along with its license plate number.
Arlington police identified the vehicle’s owner as 33-year-old Nathan Vaughan and utilized traffic and Flock cameras to trace the Malibu’s movements on the night of the incident, which aligned with the timing of the collision.
Vaughan was found at a residence in Grand Prairie on Tuesday, where the Malibu was also located. Police stated that he confessed to driving the vehicle, believing he had only struck a light pole. Investigators noted that Vaughan had left a bar on Lamar and was en route to another bar on Great Southwest Parkway when the accident took place.
He was arrested on unrelated outstanding misdemeanor warrants for failing to maintain financial responsibility and for displaying expired license tags. Subsequently, two additional charges of collision involving death were filed against him. Vaughan is currently being held in the Arlington City Jail, with bond amounts for the new charges yet to be determined.
It remains uncertain whether Vaughan has secured legal representation to advocate on his behalf.
