Jade Kahukore-Dixon Obituary, Death; – A young commercial diver tragically lost his life due to a shark attack in the remote Chatham Islands of New Zealand on Tuesday, according to police reports. Emergency services were alerted around midday after receiving notifications that the diver, who had been operating from a boat, sustained critical injuries.

The individual was subsequently transported to a hospital in the Chathams, located approximately 850 kilometers east of the South Island, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Authorities indicated that the case will be referred to the coroner for further investigation. The diver has been identified by New Zealand media as 24-year-old Jade Kahukore-Dixon.

In June, he established a business named Nomad Diving Ltd, where he served as the sole director and shareholder, as reported by Stuff. While the specific species of shark involved in the incident remains unknown, his father, Jacky Dixon, expressed his belief that it was a great white shark. He noted that his son frequently encountered great whites but was not intimidated by them, often hiding behind rocks before returning to the boat.

Shark attacks are infrequent in New Zealand, especially when compared to occurrences in Australia or South Africa. The last recorded fatality from a shark attack in New Zealand was in 2013, when a 46-year-old man was killed at Muriwai Beach, located west of Auckland. Research indicates that great white sharks have limited eyesight and may confuse humans with seals.
