Isaiah Bias, aged 28, began his career with the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office immediately after graduating from high school. He briefly left to pursue studies at Navarro College but later returned to the department, according to Sheriff Brad Norman. During his teenage years, Bias was involved in the Ellis County Sheriff’s Explorers program, which offers training and leadership development for young individuals aspiring to enter law enforcement.

“He was passionate about his work. He cherished his colleagues, and he was well-liked by everyone around him,” stated Norman. Sheriff Norman identified the inmate responsible for the attack as 45-year-old Arron Semeion Thompson. The incident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Monday while Thompson was being returned to his cell after spending one hour outside in a segregated area where he was confined for 23 hours each day.

The affidavit reveals that Bias was escorting Thompson back to his cell on the second floor when Thompson struck him in the head, choked him from behind, and continued to assault him. Following the attack, Thompson returned to the first floor and seated himself at a table.

Additional officers soon arrived and placed Thompson in handcuffs. Bias received immediate medical assistance and was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“Typically, law enforcement and detention officers interact with individuals who are simply having a bad day. However, there are instances when we encounter truly malevolent individuals. I can unequivocally state that my staff has faced pure evil in the past day,” remarked Norman.

Thompson, who has a criminal history dating back to 2002, was being held at the Ellis County Detention Center on multiple charges, including assaulting a public servant and evading arrest.

Sheriff Norman expressed his belief that Thompson deliberately murdered Bias and hopes that the District Attorney’s office will pursue the death penalty. “This was a heinous, horrific, and intentional act of murder that was utterly senseless,” Norman asserted. Thompson has since been charged with capital murder.
