Irma Pacheco Matias Obituary, Death; – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of a Madera woman who lost her life after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Highway 99. The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Irma Pacheco Matias.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to a report of a traffic accident involving a vehicle and two pedestrians on northbound Highway 99, south of Houghton Road, at approximately 1:07 a.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2024. The vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement. It has been described as a grey Ford compact vehicle.
Preliminary investigations by the CHP revealed that Matias and a 46-year-old man were crossing the traffic lanes on northbound Highway 99 when the Ford, traveling in the number two lane at an undetermined speed, approached them. The two pedestrians entered the lane directly in front of the vehicle, resulting in the collision.
Matias was pronounced dead at the scene, while the male pedestrian was transported to Kern Medical with serious injuries. The CHP has indicated that it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
