Haley Crumb,Brent McKinney Obituary, Death; – Officials have identified two individuals who lost their lives in a crash on Tuesday, following an incident in which the driver of the SUV they occupied allegedly evaded a traffic stop on a busy section of U.S. 41 in Evansville.
The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office confirmed the deceased as 24-year-old Haley Crumb and 24-year-old Brent McKinney. They were pronounced dead at the scene, which is located near the intersection of U.S. 41 and St. George Road, according to the coroner’s report.
Sgt. Anthony Aussieker, a spokesperson for the Evansville Police Department, stated that officers initiated a traffic stop on an SUV at a Circle K gas station situated at 4101 U.S. 41 near Lynch Road shortly before 3 p.m. “Following the initial stop, the driver of the vehicle fled north on U.S. 41 at 3:01 p.m.,” Aussieker noted in a press release. “The officers subsequently terminated the stop, turning off their lights and sirens. The lead officer continued north on U.S. 41 to monitor the actions of the fleeing driver.”
The Evansville Police Department has not disclosed the identity of the SUV’s driver, nor have they provided details regarding the reason for the traffic stop.
Approximately one mile north, the SUV collided with what Aussieker described as a tractor-trailer that was making a turn east onto St. George Road from U.S. 41. “Officers promptly attempted to assist the occupants of the fleeing vehicle upon discovering the accident,” Aussieker stated. “Both occupants of the fleeing vehicle were pronounced deceased.” Police reported that the driver of the tractor-trailer did not sustain any injuries.
As crash reconstructionists and crime scene technicians examined the area on Tuesday, a witness reportedly came forward, indicating they had found a firearm near the crash site. “This firearm was seized as evidence pending further investigation,” Aussieker added.
