Gloria Vasquez Obituary, Death; – A driver who allegedly left the scene after hitting and killing a 76-year-old woman and her dog while they crossed a street in Pacoima has been arrested, police said Tuesday.
Gloria Vasquez, who was identified as the victim by the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner, was outside a crosswalk when she was hit at 8:15 p.m. Monday in the area of Osborne Street and Haddon Avenue, authorities said.
The driver, later identified as Ever Marquez, 31, of Pacoima, was traveling east on Osborne in a Honda Accord when he struck the woman, who was crossing Osborne with her dog just west of Haddon, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Vasquez was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. “The victim’s dog also suffered severe injuries and later died,” police said. Marquez, who allegedly did not stop to assist Vasquez, was arrested shortly after the collision by officers who spotted the Honda while canvassing the area.
Osborne Street was closed between Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Haddon Avenue while the crash investigation was underway.
