Gerardo Almazan Obituary, Death; – Police have identified the individual who was fatally shot following a prolonged standoff in north Tulsa last Friday. According to the Tulsa Police Department, 38-year-old Gerardo Almazan was killed after officers discharged their weapons during the incident.
The TPD reported that officers were dispatched to respond to an armed robbery at a residence near Pine and Sheridan on Friday morning. Almazan was alleged to have brandished a semi-automatic pistol at a 14-year-old resident of the home in an attempt to steal the teenager’s cellphone.
Upon the officers’ arrival, Almazan retreated into the house and disregarded commands to surrender, resulting in a standoff that caused the street to be locked down. Police stated that Almazan was shot after he exited the residence armed with a pistol. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
