George Baldock Obituary, Death; – Greece defender George Baldock was discovered deceased at the swimming pool of his residence in Glyfada, located in southern Athens, on Wednesday evening. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently unclear, and an investigation is being conducted by the police.
The 31-year-old player, who was born in Britain, had joined Panathinaikos this past summer. There were no known health issues reported prior to his passing.
Baldock earned 12 caps for the Greek national team; however, he was not included in the squad that traveled to London for the UEFA Nations League match against England scheduled for Thursday. Born in Buckingham, England, in 1993, he acquired Greek citizenship through his grandmother.
He developed as a right back at MK Dons in Milton Keynes, where he remained until 2017, during which time he had several loan spells at clubs including Tamworth and Oxford United.
In 2017, he transferred to Sheffield United, where he made over 200 league appearances over seven years and secured a place in the Greek national team. He played in the Premier League for three years with the “Blades.”
In the summer of 2024, he made his first move to a Greek club by signing with Panathinaikos. Recently, he had regained his form and established himself as a regular player for the Greek Cup holders.
