Gennesse Marie Alicea Obituary, Death; – A woman lost her life, and a man was transported by air to the hospital following a collision between their vehicle and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 84 in Willington on Wednesday.
The incident took place on I-84 East near Exit 71, where both a tractor-trailer and a 2015 Hyundai Elantra were traveling in the right lane at approximately 3:15 p.m., as reported by Connecticut State Police.
The driver of the Elantra, a 33-year-old man from Holland, Massachusetts, attempted to change lanes into the center lane but collided with the driver’s side rear bumper of the tractor-trailer. This caused the Elantra to spin into the center lane, rendering it inoperable.
According to state police, a passenger in the Hyundai, identified as 39-year-old Gennesse Marie Alicea from Southbridge, Massachusetts, was declared dead at the scene. The Elantra’s driver was airlifted by LifeStar to Hartford Hospital, and his condition is currently unknown.
The driver of the tractor-trailer reportedly sustained no visible injuries, according to state police.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
