Felix Jose Lopez,Reginald Magee Obituary, Death; – Three individuals lost their lives and two others sustained injuries when scaffolding collapsed at the Port Arthur LNG facility in Jefferson County early Tuesday morning, according to officials.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as 42-year-old Felix Jose Lopez, 41-year-old Reginald Magee, and 25-year-old Felipe Mendez, all hailing from the Houston area. Houston attorney Ryan Zehl, owner of Zehl & Associates, is representing the families of the two deceased men and one injured individual.
The attorney expressed the profound grief of the victims’ families, who awoke to their loved ones at home only to face their tragic loss hours later. Zehl stated, “We are representing one of the survivors, Marcus Ramirez, as well as the families of Felix Lopez and Felipe Mendez, both of whom were tragically killed.
Felipe leaves behind a six-month-old daughter and a wife, while Felix has four children, including his 21-year-old son, Felix Lopez Jr., who witnessed his father’s fatal fall during the construction project.” Zehl emphasized his commitment to seeking justice for the families and holding the responsible companies accountable.
“We have initiated legal action against Conoco and Sempra, the joint owners of the Port Arthur liquid natural gas project. Our immediate priority is to preserve the site in its original condition at the time of the incident,” he explained. To this end, a temporary restraining order has been filed, with an emergency hearing scheduled for tomorrow. If successful, this will ensure the site remains intact for investigation by experts, OSHA, and government regulators.
Zehl acknowledged the extensive work ahead but stressed that preserving the site is the crucial first step for evidence collection. In response to inquiries regarding the ongoing legal proceedings, ConocoPhillips stated, “Our company policy is to refrain from commenting on matters of pending litigation,” as conveyed by Dennis Nus.
