Erika Lott,Rivers Bond Obituary, Death;- Moore police have identified the two individuals who lost their lives when their vehicle was swept off the road during flooding on Saturday night. Erika Lott, 44, and her 12-year-old son, Rivers Bond, perished when their car fell into a drainage ditch located near SE 12th Street and S Eastern Avenue in Moore. Another occupant of the vehicle managed to escape unharmed, according to law enforcement officials.

The tragic event occurred around 9 p.m., and after several hours of searching, first responders located the bodies of Lott and Bond at approximately 2 a.m. on Sunday. Rivers Bond was a sixth-grade student at Apple Creek Elementary, situated close to the crash site. The school issued a statement to families regarding the young boy’s passing.

“It is with deep sorrow that I convey the devastating news of the loss of one of our sixth-grade students, Rivers Bond, and his mother, who tragically died during the severe flooding last night,” Principal Rachel McNear wrote in the letter. “I wanted to inform you before students return to school, allowing you the chance to discuss this news with your child in a manner you deem appropriate. We recognize that each child copes with loss in their own way, and your support will be particularly important as they begin to process this tragedy.”

The letter also mentioned that counselors and support staff would be available on Monday and in the following weeks for students who wish to talk, ask questions, or seek comfort.

“As we collectively navigate this loss, we encourage you to keep Rivers’ family in your thoughts and prayers. Please take a moment to embrace your children a little more tightly today. Life can be incredibly fragile, and now, more than ever, we must rely on the strength and compassion of our community,” McNear stated.

In a related incident, another vehicle was also swept off the road in the same vicinity. Police informed KOCO on Saturday night that the two individuals in that truck were able to exit safely. Moore police noted that this area has not previously experienced flooding issues.
