Emily Roney Obituary, Death; – Newschain is gathering further details regarding a woman who was discovered shot in Semmes on Monday morning and subsequently succumbed to her injuries.
As per a news release from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, an MCSO deputy was traveling west on Moffett Road, near Oak Hill Drive, when he noticed a gray Dodge minivan parked on the roadside.
The deputy was signaled for assistance by two individuals from the minivan, and upon investigation, he found the driver, identified as 40-year-old Emily Roney, had sustained a gunshot wound and was unresponsive. The MCSO’s news release indicated that the two individuals in the vehicle were Roney’s father and her husband.
Investigations by MCSO detectives revealed that while traveling west on Moffett Road, Roney’s father was in the process of loading his .45 caliber handgun with recently purchased ammunition. He informed deputies that the firearm accidentally discharged, resulting in Roney being shot. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. According to the MCSO, no arrests have been made, and the case is set to be presented to a grand jury.
