Elvin Ariel Murillo Castro,Pedro Castro Obituary, Death; – A late-night collision in rural northwest Iowa involving a tractor and an SUV resulted in the deaths of two individuals.
The Iowa State Patrol reported that around 10:30 p.m. on April 14, an accident occurred in Carroll County at the intersection of 220th Street and Hawthorne Avenue, located several miles southwest of Carroll.
Authorities stated that a tractor was traveling east on 220th Street when it failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection. Simultaneously, a Hyundai Santa Fe was heading north on Hawthorne Drive.
The tractor collided with the driver’s side of the SUV, and following the impact, the tractor fled the scene. The driver and a passenger in the SUV were pronounced dead at the site of the accident. The driver was identified as 17-year-old Elvin Ariel Murillo Castro, while the passenger was 56-year-old Pedro Castro.
A third occupant of the SUV, 24-year-old Carlos Castro, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a hospital. Troopers later located the tractor involved in the incident, and its driver, 51-year-old Troy Bluml, was charged with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in fatalities.
Court documents reveal that Bluml confessed to running the stop sign and causing the crash. He is also accused of failing to report the accident after departing the scene. Bluml was taken into custody at the Carroll County Jail, where he has since posted a $10,000 bond. His charge is classified as a Class C Felony, which carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison if he is convicted.
