Elijah Sergent Obituary, Death; – A woman facing charges in connection with a drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of a young teenager is anticipated to appear in court on Tuesday. Grace Smith is one of three individuals charged in the fatal incident involving 14-year-old Elijah Sergent, a ninth-grade student at Palmetto High School, which occurred in February 2023.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office reported that Sergent’s body was discovered inside a residence on Willingham Road in Belton. He was struck in the neck by a bullet while consuming a bowl of cereal.
Authorities indicated that Smith, along with the other suspects, evaded capture for two weeks before being apprehended in Arkansas. Both Smith and Anthony Howard have been charged with murder.
The third suspect, identified as Jacob Long, who was a friend of Sergent, pleaded guilty to the shooting and received a sentence from a judge in August 2024. Court records indicate that Smith is scheduled for a plea hearing at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
