Egidio Ceriani,Mario Paglino Obituary, Death; – Their SUV was involved in a collision with an 82-year-old driver who was operating their vehicle on the incorrect side of the highway on Sunday.
The couple was en route to a lake with longtime friends Amodio Valerio Giurni and his wife Silvia Moramacro when the incident occurred 31 kilometers west of Milan, in the vicinity of Mesero.
Reports indicate that Silvia survived the accident and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The 82-year-old driver involved in the collision with the SUV has been identified as Egidio Ceriani.
According to law enforcement, he executed a U-turn after bypassing a toll booth and had been driving on the wrong side of the highway for approximately 6 kilometers at speeds exceeding 128 kph.
Paglino was a fashion designer, while Grossi was a graphic art designer. The two, who were also partners, established Magia2000 in 1999. Their company specialized in creating custom Barbie dolls inspired by pop culture and contemporary art. The designers gained recognition among collectors and enthusiasts.
Some of their dolls drew inspiration from icons such as Madonna, Cher, Victoria Beckham, Lady Gaga, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
They were also the first non-American artist duo to design a souvenir Barbie doll in 2006.
As stated on the Magia2000 website, the duo was honored with the Barbie Best Friend Award from the iconic designer Carol Spencer.
Mattel, the parent company of Barbie, paid homage to the designers on social media, referring to them as “two treasured artists whose work has forever shaped the world of dolls” in an official statement.
“The Barbie team is heartbroken by the loss of Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, two cherished creators and collaborators of Mattel who brought joy and artistry to the world of Barbie as Magia 2000,” the tribute expressed.
As passionate and skilled designers and lifelong collectors, their spirit and affection for the brand transformed every creation they engaged with into a masterpiece. Beyond their extraordinary talent, they exuded an energy that illuminated every space they entered,” the post stated.
