Edward Luongo Obituary, Death; – A man who passed away after falling 25 feet from a hunting stand on Tuesday night has been identified. Edward Luongo, 58, died after falling while hunting with a crossbow around 7 p.m. Tuesday at a site located 300 yards into the woods from Weymouth Road, as stated by Enfield Police Lt. Keith Parent on Friday.
Luongo utilized his cellphone to inform a friend that he had fallen, subsequently calling 911, Parent reported.
His precise location was swiftly determined using GPS coordinates through a “Rapid SOS” system.
According to Parent, Luongo had been on a fixed stand and was not wearing a safety harness at the time of his fall. Access to and from the stand was facilitated by metal tree climbing spikes that screw into the tree, Parent noted. A crossbow was found on the ground nearby.
Luongo was discovered conscious but lost consciousness during his transport on a UTV, Parent mentioned. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
A remembrance for Luongo highlighted a life characterized by “warmth and kindness.” He is survived by a wife and daughter, as per Browne’s Memorial Chapel.
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is conducting an investigation through its Hunter Related Shooting Incident team, according to DEEP spokesperson James Fowler. Fowler emphasized that hunters are reminded to always wear a safety harness system when elevated off the ground.
Memorial services for Luongo are scheduled for Oct. 1 from 4-7 p.m. at Browne Memorial Chapels on Shaker Road in Enfield. A funeral service is set for the following day at 11 a.m. at St. Martha Church on Brainard Road.
