Edgar Josué Chiche Martínez Obituary, Death; Cousins of Murdered Teen Arrested After His Body Is Found Wrapped in Comforter Near Highway

Edgar Josué Chiche Martínez Obituary, Death; – The cousins of a teenager from Connecticut, whose body was discovered wrapped in a comforter along the highway, have been charged in connection with his death, as confirmed by PEOPLE.

On Saturday, November 9, at approximately 7:09 a.m. local time, the Hartford Police Department responded to reports of a body located near 80 Pope Park Highway, according to a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

The victim was identified as Edgar Josué Chiche Martínez, a Hartford resident who was just days away from his 19th birthday on November 14 at the time of his death.

“The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions initiated an investigation. The body was subsequently transported to The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, where it was determined that the victim had sustained apparent gunshot wounds,” the police statement indicated.

Sender Soto-Veliz, 21, of Hartford who was arrested in connection with a homicide in Hartford.

Authorities further noted, “It is believed that the body was placed on Pope Park Highway approximately 24 hours before it was found. The investigation revealed that the incident occurred roughly one day earlier, within an apartment located at 158 Magnolia Street.” The victim’s family informed NBC Connecticut that the deceased teenager resided at the Magnolia Street address with his cousins, who have now been charged following his death.

Police confirmed that Sender Soto-Veliz, aged 21, has been charged with hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence, while a 17-year-old male, whose identity has not been disclosed, faces charges of murder and tampering with evidence.

Soto-Veliz’s bond has been set at $500,000, as stated in the release. He is suspected of assisting the unnamed teenager in disposing of the body, as confirmed by police lieutenant Aaron Boisvert to PEOPLE.

“What we seek is earthly justice, as we believe God’s justice will prevail on the other side,” remarked the victim’s aunt, Verónica Imelda Martínez Mayen, in an interview with NBC Connecticut on Monday. “He avoided parties and was very friendly,” she emphasized, asserting that Martínez was not the type to engage in trouble.
