Douglas Ivers Obituary, Death; – The police have identified the individual who was shot and killed outside the downtown Portland library last Tuesday.
The medical examiner has confirmed that Douglas Ivers, aged 50, from Portland, succumbed to a gunshot wound. “Ivers’ family has been informed of his passing and requests privacy during this time,” stated the Portland Police.
Hassan Muse, aged 26, also from Portland, has been apprehended as a suspect in the shooting. He is currently held at the Multnomah County Jail facing charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, near the intersection of Southwest 10th Avenue and Yamhill Street.
Muse was taken into custody roughly ten minutes later near Southwest 4th and Alder Street.
A detective discovered two 9mm cartridge casings at the crime scene and examined surveillance footage from the Multnomah County Library and TriMet. The footage depicted Muse shooting Ivers in the back as he was walking away, followed by a second shot after Muse approached the fallen victim.
A witness reported hearing Ivers ask Muse to leave him alone. Ivers attempted to defuse the situation by brandishing a can of bear spray, but Muse shot him from a distance of about 15 feet. The officer who was first alerted to the incident pursued Muse and notified other officers, resulting in Muse’s arrest.
