Donald Cantrell Obituary, Death; – The individuals involved in the fatal DUI incident that occurred on Wednesday on US-119 near Alum Creek have been named.
As reported by South Charleston Police Captain Andrew Gordon, Donald Cantrell lost his life in the collision at the intersection of US-119 and Brounland Road, which is known for its hazardous conditions. Captain Gordon indicated that the arrested individual, 45-year-old Alva Jones, faces charges of DUI resulting in death, DUI resulting in bodily injury, and possession with intent to deliver. He is anticipated to be arraigned on Thursday.
Metro 911 dispatchers noted that the accident transpired shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. In response to several fatal accidents, traffic lights were installed at this intersection in 2020. The installation followed years of advocacy by late community activist Eddie Belcher, who gathered thousands of petition signatures to persuade the state of the necessity for these traffic lights.
