Dillon Cornelius Obituary, Death; – An 18-year-old was fatally shot in a city incident overnight in the 200 block of College Street, according to police reports.
Christian Bruckhart, a spokesperson for the New Haven police, stated that officers assigned to monitor bar activity heard what they believed to be gunfire on College Street, situated between Crown and Chapel streets, at 2:52 a.m.
Bruckhart mentioned that the officers quickly moved towards the source of the gunfire and discovered an unresponsive male, later identified as Dillon Cornelius, a resident of West Haven, lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He indicated that the officers provided immediate medical assistance until paramedics arrived at the scene.
Cornelius was subsequently transported to Yale New Haven Hospital via ambulance, as reported by Bruckhart, where he succumbed to his injuries. He also noted that the family had been informed.
Bruckhart added that a significant crime scene was established along College Street, between Crown Street and Chapel Street. He reported that numerous shell casings were found, and several vehicles and businesses in the vicinity suffered damage due to gunfire.
