Diamonte Lafanette Obituary, Death;- The Louisiana State Police have provided additional details regarding the fatal officer-involved shooting that took place in Lake Charles on July 3. The deceased individual has been identified as 23-year-old Diamonte Lafanette from Lake Charles.
According to investigators, the Lake Charles Police Department received reports of a male individual (later confirmed to be Lafanette) who was allegedly aiming a firearm at vehicles passing by. Upon the arrival of officers in the vicinity, they encountered Lafanette reportedly wielding a gun. An initial exchange of gunfire transpired between Lafanette and the officers, after which Lafanette fled the scene.
Authorities reported that Lafanette reappeared from behind a residence and discharged his weapon at the officers, leading to a second exchange of gunfire, during which Lafanette sustained injuries. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives discovered a handgun near Lafanette that had been previously reported as stolen, according to officials. This investigation is still active and ongoing.
