Destiny Quiterio Obituary, Death;- It was a tragic scene early on Saturday morning. Police from Winston-Salem arrived at Cameron Avenue to discover three individuals who had been shot and killed.
In conversations with local residents, WXII interviewed a woman who has resided on Cameron Avenue for the past 40 years. She mentioned that while they have witnessed violence over the years, they have never encountered anything of this magnitude.
“This is the worst I have ever witnessed,” remarked the neighbor, who preferred to remain anonymous. “It is very unsettling, indeed.”
She recounted waking up early on Saturday morning to see the flashing lights of police cars outside her window. At first, she assumed someone had been stopped for a traffic violation. It was only later, after her son informed her, that she understood the gravity of the situation.
She told WXII that she stepped outside her door to find the intersection of Tenth Street and Cameron Avenue cordoned off with police tape, as onlookers gathered to observe the ongoing investigation.
“As more people arrived, I noticed they appeared distressed,” the neighbor stated. “I asked one of them, ‘Do you know what happened?’ She replied, ‘Three people were shot.’ I inquired, ‘Are they OK?’ She responded, ‘Unfortunately not.’ At that moment, I felt an overwhelming urge to scream, being so close to the scene. I asked, ‘Were you related to them?’ She said, ‘Yes.’ I expressed my condolences, saying, ‘I’m so sorry.’ That was all I could manage to say. ‘I’m so sorry.'”
According to the Winston-Salem police, officers were dispatched to a residence on Cameron Avenue shortly before 1:40 a.m. regarding the shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a 17-year-old, an 18-year-old, and a 23-year-old lying outside the home, all of whom had sustained gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services pronounced all three dead at the scene. Preliminary reports indicate that a gathering was taking place at the time of the shooting.
Family members identified the 17-year-old victim as Destiny Quiterio.
The neighbor interviewed by WXII expressed her hope and prayers for an end to the violence.
“I hope these individuals will choose to put their guns away,” she stated.
