Deputy Marcos Pena Jr Obituary, Death; – A Los Angeles County deputy, who was off-duty, tragically lost his life following a two-vehicle accident on the 101 Freeway in North Hollywood early Tuesday morning.
The victim has been identified by the LA County Sheriff’s Department as 31-year-old Deputy Marcos Pena Jr., who became a member of the department in 2022.
Sheriff Robert G. Luna expressed, “We are heartbroken by the tragic and untimely loss of Deputy Pena Jr., who was taken from us far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all those who had the honor of serving alongside him.”
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. Preliminary investigations by the officers revealed that Pena’s black KIA subcompact SUV had come to a stop on the freeway for reasons that remain unclear. Pena and a female companion exited the vehicle and were subsequently struck by a white box truck.
Paramedics from the LA Fire Department declared both individuals deceased at the scene.
In response to the incident, officers closed all northbound lanes of the 101 Freeway at the Hollywood Freeway, as well as all lanes of the westbound 134 Freeway leading to the northbound 101 Freeway. The California Highway Patrol fully reopened the freeway around 7:30 a.m.
