Denis Patrick Carmody Obituary, Death; – Deputies started investigating Monday after one person was killed in a shooting in Charlotte County near the Lee County line.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation is along Nasturtium Drive, a neighborhood off US-41 south of Zemel Road.
CCSO has identified the man who was killed in front of the residence as 63-year-old Denis Patrick Carmody.
Deputies also said a person of interest has been developed in the case and was arrested on unrelated charges. Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell said the following in a news release:
“As always, I want to thank the Charlotte County community for their patience as my Major Crimes Unit conducts a thorough investigation to determine what happened. Any death investigation is saddening, but one in the middle of the holiday season hits a little harder. Please pray for the family and loved ones of Mr. Carmody as they now cope with his loss.”
Neighbors said deputies had been on the scene since around 1 a.m. One neighbor said they heard a gunshot Sunday night but didn’t call 911 since there is always stuff happening at the home in question. The next-door neighbors showed NBC2 a shovel that appeared in their garbage cans that did not belong to them, saying they had just noticed it.
Deputies took pictures of the shovel and brought it in for evidence. These neighbors we spoke to live just a couple of yards from the crime scene on Nasturtium Drive. Neighbors also said they see lots of people coming and going from the property all of the time. The sheriff’s office said the investigation is still active and ongoing.
