Delfina Perez Chilel,Victor Chavez Sr Obituary, Death; – A man from Hallandale Beach is facing accusations of murdering a pregnant woman before attempting to take his own life, according to police reports released on Sunday.
On Tuesday, Hallandale Beach Police found Victor Chavez Sr. unresponsive alongside a deceased woman, later identified as Delfina Perez Chilel, in their residence after the couple failed to collect their two children from daycare. Chilel, who was 20 weeks pregnant, sustained severe injuries at the time of her discovery, as reported by the authorities.
Chavez, who appeared lethargic and unresponsive, was taken to a hospital. After his recovery, he admitted, following a Miranda warning, to the murders and his suicide attempt, police stated.
Relatives informed the police that the couple had a history of domestic conflicts and expressed concerns regarding Chavez’s mental health and previous threats. Family members initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist Chilel’s children.
“(Chilel) was part of our lives for a little over 41 years, and we already feel lost without her and the warmth she shared with everyone she met,” her sister expressed. “I am now responsible for raising her two beautiful children alongside my own. Their future will be challenging. They are the true victims of this tragedy. I hope our family can provide enough support and do right by them.”
She mentioned that Chilel had been a victim of domestic violence and that the family wishes to return her to Guatemala for her final resting place. Chavez has been charged with two counts of dangerous depraved murder without premeditation, classified as second-degree murder. He has been ordered to remain in jail without bond while the defense has requested a mental health evaluation for him.
