Dazariah Easton Obituary, Death; – Action News Jax has identified the name of the individual who was accidentally shot and killed in Brunswick over the weekend, as reported by the police.
The Glynn County Coroner has confirmed to Action News Jax that the individual was 14-year-old Dazariah Easton.
The Brunswick Police Department stated that it responded to Altama Avenue on Saturday night concerning a shooting incident inside a residence. Neighbors we interviewed indicated that the event occurred near Stonewall Street.
Investigators revealed that 17-year-old Daquarius Wallace “was mishandling a firearm when the victim was shot.” Wallace was apprehended along with 21-year-old Bobby Sullivan in relation to Easton’s death. Wallace faces charges of second-degree murder and cruelty to children, among other offenses. Sullivan is charged with cruelty to children and additional related charges.
Research conducted by Everytown for Gun Safety indicates that this year, there have been at least 154 unintentional shootings involving children across the nation, resulting in 62 fatalities and 95 injuries. They also highlight that Georgia is at the forefront of the nation with 12 unintentional shootings by children this year, while Florida ranks second with 11.
“Firearm-related deaths are the leading cause of mortality among our children and teenagers in this country,” stated Jennifer Massey from Moms Demand Action. Massey serves as the chapter lead for Moms Demand Action Florida, a grassroots initiative of Americans advocating for gun safety reforms. She asserts that accidental or unintentional shooting fatalities are preventable.
“These incidents are preventable because there are effective measures to ensure the safety of our children, such as securing firearms, utilizing secure storage methods like gun locks, gun boxes, gun safes, and similar solutions,” Massey remarked.
We are in the process of obtaining the mug shots and arrest records for both suspects. We attempted to contact Easton’s family, but have not yet received a response.
