David Meneou,Jameson Meneou Obituary, Death; – A suburban family is grieving the loss of two men from the Chicago area, a father and son, who tragically drowned over the holiday weekend after being rescued from the waters of Lake Michigan at a beach located in Northwest Indiana.
The drownings occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Saturday at Boaters Beach in Burns Harbor, Indiana, according to officials.
A good Samaritan pulled the two men from the water at the Indiana Dunes National Park, as reported by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. They were subsequently transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The deceased have been identified as 65-year-old David Meneou from Joliet, Illinois, and 20-year-old Jameson Meneou from Lockport, Illinois, as stated by the Porter County Coroner. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources confirmed their relationship as father and son.
David’s brother informed ABC7 that his nephew Jameson was diagnosed with autism. He also described David as a devoted father who committed his life to caring for his son.
“Initial investigations indicate that both individuals were in the water when Jameson Meneou ventured into deeper waters and began to struggle,” a news release from the IDNR partially stated. “David Meneou attempted to save his son but also encountered difficulties in the deep water.”
No additional information has been released at this time as authorities continue their investigation.
