Darryl K Jones Obituary, Death; – A tragic accident has resulted in the death of a man in New York state. Authorities report that a man crossing an interstate was fatally hit early Monday morning. State Police indicate that the victim was from out of state and had stepped onto the road while it was still dark.
An investigation reveals that the truck driver who struck the pedestrian initially believed they had collided with a deer. However, upon reviewing the dashcam footage, the driver realized that it was indeed a person who had been hit.
According to a press release from New York State Police, on August 18, at 4:48 A.M., troopers were dispatched to an area on I-90 in the town of Hamburg regarding a possible tractor-trailer that had struck a pedestrian.
The investigation found that a man from Florida had walked from a nearby hotel onto Interstate-90. Police report that the victim entered the driving lane and was struck by a 2023 Kenwood traveling westbound.
Authorities state that the truck driver initially thought it might have been a deer and continued on the highway, but after reviewing the dashcam footage, they realized it was actually a pedestrian, according to the report.
Tragically, the man was found deceased in a nearby ditch after law enforcement was alerted. The Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office arrived and took the deceased for a post-mortem examination.
New York State Police have stated that there were no signs of foul play and that the scene was consistent with an accidental death. The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Darryl K. Jones from Yalaha, Florida.
