Darlene Scalf Obituary, Death; – Oakland police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck and killed while crossing a street Sunday morning in East Oakland.
At about 8:45 a.m., officers were sent to the intersection of Fruitvale Avenue and East 27th Street, where they found a person who had been hit by a vehicle, according to police. The pedestrian, later identified as 76-year-old Darlene Scalf of Fontana, was taken to a hospital, where she died, police said.
Investigators believe Scalf was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by the vehicle making a turn onto westbound East 27th Street from a northbound Fruitvale Avenue lane.
The driver allegedly fled after hitting the pedestrian but was found a short time later and arrested, according to police, who also said alcohol might have been a factor in the collision.
