Daniel Landry Obituary, Death; – The California Highway Patrol reports that one individual has lost their life and four others have sustained serious injuries in a collision that took place in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Saturday evening.
The incident began at approximately 9:55 p.m. when the CHP was notified of a crash affecting both lanes of Highway 17 at Sugarloaf Road.
According to the CHP, a 78-year-old man from Santa Cruz, who was operating a Honda Element, entered the path of oncoming traffic and collided with a Tesla Model Y driven by a 19-year-old from Antioch. This initial collision led to a subsequent rear-end crash involving a Honda Accord that was following the Tesla.
Despite the attempts of bystanders and emergency medical personnel, the driver of the Honda Element succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as Daniel Landry, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.
Four additional individuals suffered serious injuries and were taken to the hospital. The cause of the incident is still under investigation, and it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
