D Angelo Le Marcus Samuel,Roderick Hall Obituary, Death; – An Alabama rapper was among two individuals fatally shot during a funeral repast in Brighton.
On Monday, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as D’Angelo Le’Marcus Samuel, 27, from Birmingham, and Roderick Hall, 38, from Midfield. Samuel was known professionally as Landlord Lo. In 2020, he collaborated with Pooh Shiesty on the music video for “Chance,” which achieved over 1.7 million views.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday, following the funeral of Samuel’s uncle, 62-year-old Fredrick Lee Samuel. Authorities responded to the Brighton Community Center, located at 3810 7th Ave., shortly before 2:30 p.m.
At the time of the shooting, Samuel, Hall, and at least one other man were positioned just outside the entrance. Both Samuel and Hall were pronounced dead beneath the awning at the community center’s entrance. Law enforcement communications indicated that one victim sustained a gunshot wound to the eye, while the other was shot in the head. The sounds of grieving family members were audible at the crime scene.
The investigation is being led by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Bessemer police for crowd control, and responses from Brighton police and firefighters. As of now, no arrests have been made. Brighton police Captain Kenneth Hooten, who also serves as the city’s assistant fire chief, was among the first responders to arrive.
Hooten expressed that he had known Hall since elementary school, describing him as a “down to earth guy.” “He was never a troublemaker,” Hooten remarked. “I attended elementary school with him before I became a police officer or firefighter. We would occasionally check in on one another,” Hooten added.
Whenever they encountered each other, Hall would always inquire if Hooten needed assistance, saying, “If you need anything, all you have to do is ask.” Hall would also express pride in Hooten’s accomplishments.
At the age of 18, Samuel was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old alleged drug dealer Kevin Hatter, which took place in the 1200 block of 47th Street.
