Clembert Kaneholani Arrested; – Maui police have identified the individual allegedly responsible for the shooting and subsequent death of Maui police officer Suzanne O in Paia.
Clembert Kaneholani, aged 38, is presently being held without the possibility of bail.
The charges against him include first-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, and two counts of being a felon in possession of ammunition.
On Friday, police reported that at approximately 8:30 p.m., a caller informed them that an unidentified person had trespassed onto their property and discharged a firearm at them.
Maui Police Chief John Pelletier informed Hawaii News Now that officers responded to the vicinity of the Paia Sugar Mill, where they encountered an individual who was firing what police believed to be a rifle.
“Our officer sustained a gunshot wound to her chest area,” Pelletier stated, and despite efforts to save her life, she succumbed to her injuries.
Pelletier referred to the officer as a true hero of both the community and the profession.
“She represented the best among us, and we are thankful for her service,” he remarked. “This is an absolute tragedy. Today marks a somber moment in the history of the Maui Police Department and our community.
