Christopher Corn,Katherine Jennings Obituary, Death; – Authorities have disclosed the identities of the individuals involved in a car accident near the McDowell/Rutherford County line on Monday evening, which resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left another critically injured.
As reported by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the incident took place at approximately 7:37 p.m. on US-221 South.
Officials from the agency indicated that a white 2025 Honda Pilot, operated by Fasan Dayo from New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, attempted to overtake several vehicles while heading southbound. The Honda was unable to return to its designated lane and collided head-on with a black 2024 Toyota GR86, driven by Jacob McKinney of Nebo, who was traveling northbound, according to officials.
Authorities stated that the collision caused the Honda Pilot to veer off the roadway and overturn. Both Dayo and his passenger, Katherine Jennings from Marion, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Toyota GR86 also left the roadway, leading to the death of passenger Christopher Corn from Nebo, as confirmed by the State Highway Patrol. McKinney, the operator of the Toyota, suffered life-threatening injuries and was subsequently airlifted to Mission Hospital, according to officials.
Responding to the crash were McDowell EMS, Glenwood Fire Department, Union Mills Fire Department, Rutherford County EMS, and McDowell County Rescue.
The incident is currently under investigation.
