CEO Brian Thompson Obituary, Death; – The individual responsible for the fatal shooting of the CEO of the largest health insurance company in the United States may have departed the city via bus, as reported by New York City police officials to CNN on Friday.
Footage captured during the incident on Wednesday, which involved UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, depicted the assailant initially riding a bicycle to Central Park before subsequently hailing a taxi to a bus terminal, according to Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny.
Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated, “We have reason to believe that the person in question has left New York City.” Although the gunman took precautions to mask his identity during the attack, he left behind a significant amount of evidence in a city equipped with an extensive network of surveillance cameras.
A law enforcement source indicated on Friday that newly obtained surveillance footage reveals the suspect utilizing the subway and frequenting various locations in Manhattan, providing further insights into his activities leading up to the assault.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but New York City police assert that the evidence strongly suggests it was a targeted act. Investigators suspect that the assailant may have arrived in New York last month on a bus originating from Atlanta, as per the law enforcement official who requested anonymity due to the ongoing investigation.
Upon his arrival in New York, he consistently used cash for transactions at locations where he was recorded on camera, according to the official. Authorities have analyzed a discarded water bottle and a protein bar wrapper in their search for DNA evidence. They are also attempting to gather more information from a cellphone found in a pedestrian plaza where the gunman escaped after shooting Thompson outside his company’s annual investor conference, located just a few blocks from Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center.
