Carol D Purcell Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the individual who perished in a tragic house fire in Saybrook as 72-year-old Carol D. Purcell.
The McLean County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene at approximately 4:12 p.m. on September 19, responding to a fire at 301 W. Oak Street, where several rural fire departments were already present. Once the fire was put out, deputies found Purcell deceased within the residence.
As reported by McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathy Yoder, initial autopsy findings suggest that Purcell’s death was likely caused by carbon monoxide poisoning resulting from smoke and soot inhalation. Toxicology results are still awaited.
The case is currently being investigated by the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, the McLean County Coroner’s Office, and the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal.
