Brian Sclafford-Clemons Obituary, Death; – Three individuals have received life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole for the drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of an Austell father in 2021, who was tragically killed in front of his 8-year-old daughter.

A jury in Cobb County found Jermari Ferron, 23, Diomante Plummer, 27, and Claubert Mimy, 24, guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, second-degree cruelty to children, and reckless conduct. Cobb Superior Court Judge Julie Adams Jacobs imposed a life sentence without parole on each of them, in addition to an extra 40 years.
During the four-week trial, jurors examined over 1,500 pieces of evidence before reaching their guilty verdicts.

The charges arise from the killing of 37-year-old Brian Sclafford-Clemons on March 27, 2021, who was shot while waiting to turn into a RaceTrac gas station, located less than a mile from his residence. He had just departed his home with his daughter to purchase snacks.

While Sclafford-Clemons was positioned in the left turn lane on Austell Road, a black BMW and a white Lexus approached his Nissan Altima and opened fire. He was hit seven times and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His daughter, who was seated in the back, remained unharmed.

A witness who rescued the girl from the vehicle remarked that the car was so heavily perforated with bullets that it resembled “Swiss cheese.” Investigators later recovered 26 shell casings from 9mm rounds and a single 300-blackout cartridge case at the crime scene. A bullet that became lodged in the back passenger door frame—merely inches from where the child was seated—was the only round that did not completely penetrate the vehicle.

Detectives from the Cobb County Police Department analyzed surveillance footage from the RaceTrac and surrounding buildings, ultimately identifying a black 2021 BMW M440i and a white Lexus IS250 from the years 2006 to 2012. The footage depicted both vehicles circling the victim’s neighborhood for over three hours prior to the ambush.
Despite the calculated nature of the attack, investigators could not establish any clear motive linked to Sclafford-Clemons. The case gained momentum when a detective uncovered an accident report in Atlanta.
