Brian J Diguez Obituary, Death; – Two inmates at Folsom State Prison are under suspicion for the murder of another inmate during an alleged assault that occurred last week, according to corrections officials.
As reported by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, inmate Brian J. Diguez was assaulted by two other inmates in the prison’s dayroom at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Officials indicated that prison staff promptly intervened to control the situation and initiated life-saving efforts for Diguez.

The 34-year-old was subsequently transported to the prison’s triage and treatment area. Diguez was declared deceased by the Folsom Fire Department at 7:09 p.m.
Corrections officials noted that Diguez had been received from Los Angeles County on July 25, 2016. He was serving a 21-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter, which included an enhancement under the Street Gang Act for committing a serious felony.
Officers successfully recovered two weapons fashioned by inmates from the scene.
The two inmates, identified as 48-year-old Boris Bonilla and 32-year-old Carlos J. Duran, have been transferred to restricted housing while the investigation is ongoing.
Bonilla was received from Los Angeles County on May 17, 2012, and is currently serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole for first-degree murder, which includes multiple enhancements, as stated by corrections officials. Duran was received from Santa Clara County on February 3, 2022, and is serving a two-year sentence for a parole violation related to vehicle theft, having prior convictions for vehicle theft.
No further injuries have been reported.
On Saturday, the CDCR announced that officials had restricted movement in the area where the assault occurred to aid in the investigation. The prison’s Investigative Services Unit, along with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office and the county coroner, are conducting the investigation.
