Brent Gunnels Obituary, Death; – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a Sunday morning crash as Brent Gunnels, a chef at “The W” in Lee’s Summit.
In a post shared to Facebook Wednesday, the cocktail lounge and eatery said, “It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of Chef Brent Gunnels, who passed on Sunday in an automotive accident. He was a shining star in the culinary world and a dream to have behind the bar at The W. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts.”
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at about 2 a.m. Sunday, Gunnels was driving a 2007 Subaru westbound on Missouri Highway 2, east of 263rd Street, in Freeman.
While he was on the highway, he reportedly drove off the right side of the road and up an embankment before going airborne and striking a rock bluff and flipping. The Subaru then came to a rest upright.
Gunnels was pronounced dead later Sunday morning at about 7 a.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, his family has been notified.
