A neighbor previously informed FOX 10 that Schonemann was amiable, always greeted others, and had a passion for constructing trucks. On June 24, Sheafe, 51, confessed at the Coconino County Jail to killing the pastor, whose remains were discovered on April 28. Sheafe is currently held in Coconino County on charges unrelated to Pastor Bill’s demise.
He exhibited no signs of remorse or regret when he was brought into the room in shackles. When questioned about whether he killed Schonemann, he answered, “Yes.” He rationalized his actions through his religious beliefs, asserting that Christian pastors mislead individuals onto a false path by following Jesus. He claimed that Pastor Bill was the first target in a scheme he referred to as “Operation First Commandment.”
He intended to “crucify” 14 pastors nationwide and admitted that he was on the verge of killing two priests at the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona before being apprehended by law enforcement.
“The day I was going to execute that priest, I attempted to enter the back of his car. A little lady on a bike obstructed my path, and I was simply going to get in the back seat and instruct him to drive to his residence,” Sheafe recounted. When asked if he had ever been victimized by anyone within the Christian faith, he replied negatively, stating that his family is Christian and that he enjoyed a positive childhood.
He denied any mental health issues. He also expressed that he felt no remorse for his actions. “Will I apologize for my actions? Absolutely not,” he declared. Sheafe acknowledged a history of drug use but maintained that it did not affect his mental condition.
