Benton Lindsey Obituary, Death;- A 56-year-old man was discovered deceased in the Peace River on July 20 after his disabled airboat drifted away, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The airboat was navigating the Peace River near Veterans Memorial Park in Arcadia with two individuals on board when it experienced a mechanical failure, as reported by the FWC.
One of the passengers exited the vessel and went ashore to seek help while the operator stayed on the airboat. As the airboat floated down the river, “a series of events led the operator to end up in the water,” stated the FWC.
Emergency responders arrived and initiated a search for the missing boater, with efforts persisting throughout the night. The body of the boater, identified as Benton Lindsey, 56, was recovered from the river on Monday afternoon, according to the FWC.
The investigation by the FWC is ongoing.
