Athena Georgopoulos,Andrew Gunn Obituary, Death; – The individuals who fell victim to a horrific double homicide in the southeastern region of Melbourne have been named, as a man faces charges related to this dreadful act.
Authorities discovered the remains of 39-year-old Athena Georgopoulos and 50-year-old Andrew Gunn within a residence in Mount Waverley on Monday evening.
A 34-year-old man, who is currently homeless, was apprehended without incident at Westall train station during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
He has been charged with two counts of murder and is scheduled to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The couple had been in a relationship for three years and were anticipating the arrival of a child, with Georgopoulos being five months pregnant.
On Tuesday, Georgopoulos’ mother visited the site of the murders and was heard exclaiming “oh my God” repeatedly while expressing her distress over her daughter’s pregnancy.
7NEWS has reported that Gunn had been decapitated, with his head believed to have been discovered on a stick.
The specifics regarding Georgopoulos’ injuries remain unclear.
A number of enigmatic messages were inscribed on the outside of the home as well as on a fence across from the property.
These messages included phrases such as “enough is enough,” “karma has no menu,” and references to veganism, including “meat is murder.”
Law enforcement officials are currently investigating whether the graffiti is connected to the homicides.
Detective Inspector Dean Thomas stated that the assault seemed to have been deliberate.
“We suspect there is a connection between our suspect and the location, but we are currently collaborating to understand the implications of that connection and what it entails,” he remarked.
“The suspect arrived at the location, and it is evident that an altercation ensued, resulting in the deaths of the male and female, after which the suspect departed the scene.
